The Sacred Tree - Aligning the Teachings of the Medicine Wheel to Empower Indigenous Women to Add to Their Safety Bundles in Addressing Intimate Partner Violence

FACILITATED BY:

ONWA Community Services, Bobbi Fletcher-Decorte and Fallan Bain

ONWA’s Community Wellness and Mental Health team offers strength-based, culturally grounded programming that walks alongside Indigenous women on their wellness and healing journeys. At its heart, the Community Wellness program weaves together traditional knowledge, community connection, and healing practices to help women reclaim their strength and wellbeing.

The Sacred Tree program, created and led by the Community Wellness team, invites Indigenous women to begin building their own safety bundles—collections of teachings, practices, and supports that protect and nourish them. Over four weeks, community members engage in traditional teachings and draw strength from the community, creating a safe and supportive space to reflect on and honour their lived experiences with Intimate Partner Violence (IPV). This journey fosters resilience, deepens connection, and nurtures hope for the future, empowering each woman to walk forward with a safety bundle that is uniquely her own.
